The coast gets decorated

There's a new designer in town Sydney! And he's not pink and fluffy and gay and filled with lots of quotes about Oh MY GOD– How good was that moe-ka frap Starbucks had last week– and I just love the interior decoration– and yadda yadda quack quack all that stereotypical crap.

Sculpture By The Sea is back people. Get out of your homes and see some art.

Mmm… clicking images makes spoons bigger…

Or you could just read about it here.

Or you could do both.

Really people. I'm easy. I'll even be here all week… if that tempts you… yeah… spoons… spooning… spooning the coast…

Get a hold of yourself, Leigh! Just remember… there is no spoon…

Okay, so I'm lying. There really is a spoon. It's a big metallic reflective spoon with a knot in it, sort of like the knot in my stomach at the moment only this one can be seen by everyone and I wouldn't mind having this one in my backyard. If I had a backyard. Or money.

It's a really cool reflective spoon. It even does that reflective thing that spoons do with inverse reflectivity… if that is a term.

By the way, I headed out there with Juliet who has never actually been to a Sculpture By The Sea.

There she is… taking pictures… just like you should be.

So you know, get off of your ass and take some pictures of some cool sculptures. It's art people!

Apparently, anyway.

There's actually a lot of interesting stuff there this year. I prefer the Bondi end of it personally and I found some of the art really intriguing. It seems that modernism and contemporary / post-contemporary art seem to be the orders of the day.

Why this is supposed to be a whale. Can you tell it's a whale? I think it's supposed to be a whale. It's only one view of it, though. You really should see it for yourself.

Metallic seems to be a popular flavour too with a few sculptures jumping right on that reflectivity bandwagon. I personally liked this one a lot. You can really play with it from different angles and end up with some truly unique images.

Yes sir-ee, you can have fun with that sculpture.

Even the little guys like the art.

Little guys like this here lady bug who's actually sitting on a piece of art. In fact, that piece of art lets you make some double exposures without even thinking. They're plates of glass with the views of behind them printed onto them. You could either line them up for a neat effect or take pictures of people standing behind them for that true layering effect.

It ain't Photoshop, people, but you can click on it to get a bigger view!

Like what you're seeing here?

Go out and see it for yourself. Be quick about it too; you don't have much time. It ends this week and the place is crowded as hell already on the weekends.

More pictures below in case you're at all curious…
