Random tangly bits of crap…

…the sort that might hang awkwardly out from your bottom if you hadn’t cleaned up properly.

Those are the sorts of things I won’t be talking about in my blog (for once) because now, I have some more of that random news you don’t really give two shits about (maybe half of one) but hey, what do I care… it’s my blog so I’m going to do whatever the fuck I want, right?!

Well… yeah… so yeah…:

Sony are trying to sweeten the deal to part with $1000 AU of your hard earned bucks!

I love to see logic like this. We’ll give the first 20,000 or so people who spend the thousand bucks the systems costs a free digital copy of Casino Royale (which has a value of around 30 bucks max) and if it’s a digital download (which they haven’t said if it will or won’t be) it will no doubt be locked with some sort of Sony rootkit-esque DRM technology.

Still, they’re also being extra sweet by giving all the people who buy PS3’s Gran Turismo HD for free.

Even though HD is a canceled game and pretty much exists because Polyphony Digital decided to release what they’d done in the game as a “demo”.

So sure Sony… a 30 buck prize for parting with a thousand bucks AND a demo of a canned game! Wow… so generous, Sony, you stupid fucks.

Sony are also defending claims that the high price tag on their new console is justified for the Australian market.
I don’t know about them, but I’m sure the definition of “competition” didn’t include being between 300 and 600 dollars higher than the consoles you’re technically competing with. Also, arguing that because we only have 22-30 million people here compared to the USA’s 300 million is a load of crap, too. By and large, the parts aren’t made in either places so the cost isn’t part of that issue. Australia’s currency rate is giving the United States’ a good run for their money (pun intended sort of) and so by that logic, economics should play a part and make the price more a conversion than “Sony’s hungry…”

Still, if the rumours on Kotaku have any grain of truth to them (and they probably do, much to Sony’s denial machine working at it), there’ll be plenty of Casino Royale flicks to go around long after the first 11,000 have disappeared… however long that takes to happen.

There’s been an interesting case in America with another randomly angry kid beating the crap out of and killing a homeless man, so of course everyone is blaming video games.

Yeah… because that’s what you do.

So Penny Arcade to the rescue with Gabe getting a response to his comments by someone involved from the parental side. It’s actually an eye-opener into what its like from the side of someone who has to deal with shits like this kid. And the media is eating it up. Why? Because both the kid and the media know that with our stupid little population, the people will eat it up and it’ll spark debate again for no apparent reason. Plus, it diverts any and all real culpability & responsibility from the kid and shifts it to a medium that has no real control in any situation barring entertainment.

I watched a performance on Letterman the other night and this new Broadway show called “Spring Awakening” didn’t look too bad based off of what I saw. It’s got music by Duncan Sheik so that’s an added bonus as he’s not that bad. Problem is… it’s not in Australia… and knowing our record for only bringing down shows that can be massive commercial successes if you’re a vegetable (preferably an eggplant), it’s got around a 3% chance of ever coming down here, damnit.

… and my brother and I have built a new (old-ish) computer to go with all the neat and nifty bits of sound recording crap he & Boris-The-Drummer have bought so we can start recording. So… very soon, our band — Sarah Luna — will start recording.
