Hot Day, Summer In The City

God it would be nice if I had something witty to follow up that title with… some sort of line that makes Credence Clearwater Revival feel like it was a good thing to make that song so bastards like myself could rip it off and use some of its lyrics in our blog.

But I can’t… so you’ll just have to deal with it.

Regardless, when I went into town on Thursday, the 25th of January, it was quite hot. Warm and sticky and humid and evil… oh so evil…

While my brother and our drummer were at Big Day Out no doubt getting their heads smashed in by the masses of people jumping and… swaying and… what the fuck do they do at rock concerts?!– anyway, while they were getting done in by fellow rockers at Big Day Out, I was heading into town to try and help Geoff pick out (and hopefully purchase) a new laptop for one of his mates.

Geoff was to treat me to a coffee afterwards, of which I would’ve taken the opportunity to try and get a picture or two for the Crema contest we’re running on our forum.

Regardless, I’d done a bit of research before coming in and I figured out which lappy would be good for this guy I’d never met based on what he “wanted” and his price range. I’d also found out the good prices.

Except for that when we got to Computer World, we discovered that the staff at Computer World hadn’t changed much in the few years since I hadn’t used them.

They were still staffed with complete and utter douche bags.

Oh yes, I don’t use that term lightly.

They were staffed with fools who barely knew what they were talking about. Ooo… pretty lights the computer makes, you stupid fucks.

In finding out that they didn’t have the lappy (which is fair enough), they told us that the Asus in question we were asking about was discontinued, but that there was a similar Fujitsu they were selling.

From Asus to Fujitsu? What?! Oh, so you like ripping off the customer and sending them from high-quality to dismal shit, Mr. Computer-World-Douche-bag, do you? Well fuck you, too. Go learn something about computer build quality, battery life, and chipsets used before you try to sell something to someone who obviously knows more about this crap than you do.

Oh, and telling us that you gave the product a price rise because it was discontinued as a way of “discouraging people to buy it” tells me more about your company policy than I could ever get by wrangling a couple of orders you way, you stupid fucks.

Shit, I know I’ve bought from ya’ll before and back then, your staff was pretty fucking useless, but wow… ya’ll have devolved. You’re not just useless… you now have a staff of fools.

Staff, staff, staffffffff…. STAFF OF FOOLS. Let Aretha sing about that shit.

Buses are good for taking pictures of things. Even ads. Nah, I’m not trying to make you drink alcohol. Not unless you plan on getting drunk with me. Then it’s fine.

So we call up a few places, walk around to others, even going into Georges & DigitalCity for a laugh, each of which are as useless as the next, but at least they tried. They all agreed that the good price at Penta Computers was too good to pass up so I imagine that Geoff and his mate called them up to order it. I’ve got no real idea.

Geoff and I then headed to Dymocks for a bit and while I wanted an Annie Leibovitz book that was half-price (half of $150 is still a lot of money), Geoff ended up getting a biography and then we left.

Unfortunately, Geoff had to go and buy a new lens, so he promised to get me a coffee another day and he & I went our separate ways… him heading to DD Photographics and me heading for a bus.

On the bus, I did what I normally did… took pictures.

I started — half-way through the ride home — taking pictures through the “EMERGENCY” letters, or at least the “EM” part of “Emergency” to see if the letters or the faint black printing would make a difference to my images in some form or another.

It did on a few, and it’s most noticeable on the one below as random bits of shading along the walls.

I got home not too long after, opting to get off at the Junction like I normally do and walk home. Hey, it’s good to walk.

Later on in the afternoon — when I’m back home — I hear some meowing.

You see, Vivaldi has been getting more pretentious lately. Usually, when I come back home, he’ll hear me or spot me and walk by my side (like a dog) and then stand with my as I open the security door to our block of apartments, walk in, and then wait for me to open the door to our flat so he can walk in that way.

But when I’m not there to guide him in, he jumps on my window sill on the outside of the fly-screen and tries to get in that way.

It’s “mrooowwww” and “mrrooowwww?”… as if I’m supposed to know what he’s on about.

I try telling him to come in from a different way, but nooooo…

It takes the “jingling” of the keys in the bathroom to remind him that if he wants to come in, he’s the cat and not the human and that’s where he’ll have to do it.

Damn cats. I swear, they think they’re smarter than we are.

Probably are, mind you. They’ve got it all worked out. They look cute, rub up to you, you stroke them and cuddle them… and you’re their bitch.

I almost wrote “birch”. If you were their “birch”, you’d be little more than a scratching post made out of wood.

Mind you, that’s little more than I am now.
