There’s a Minifig in all of us

A few weeks ago, Bowie — one of the clients I have (ok… pretty much the only one at the moment) — told me that he wanted an animated Lego-ish character for his newsletter.

Cool. I’d do it in 3d, more than likely.

Now, I assumed that I’d need this by February 12 or 14-ish… but no, it seems.

Apparently, I need it by Monday.

MONDAY?!
Bu-bu-butttt?!?!?!?!

So I’ve been doing some research on the Lego people tonight. My search started with “lego men” (because I figured that Lego might have been sexist to start out with), then went to “lego people” (ok, so they weren’t… people sums up Lego civilians I guess…), which then led me to “minifigs”.

And after a bit of research, I can tell you that there are some very cool Minifig thingies out there…

For instance, there’s a whole ton of Lego Star Wars activities even if you don’t buy the games, Minifigs for movie & TV freaks (I love Phlox from Enterprise & the Tom Baker-Doctor Who ones!), I already knew about the Lego watches (anyone wanna buy me one?!), a software solution for creating Lego models, a basic web-based Minifig generator, and even a how-to guide on making a Lego costume (pretty much the head only… the rest wouldn’t be hard).

There’s even more history if you didn’t like all of that and / or the Wiki!!!

But wait, the best is yet to come…

The best two sites I found about Lego Minifigs included a stop-motion Lego Minifig version of the Thriller (originally by Michael Jackson and full-length so put aside 10-15 minutes) and this brilliant pixel-art site with Lego versions of characters and actors and other people you’ll know at least a few (if not all of).

Blimey. Minifigs own the world. There must be a Minifig inside each and every one of us.
