Gigi Returns
Monday, April 20th, 2009
As if on cue for when Dad leaves for a few days, Gigi comes back scrounging for food.

Gigi isn’t my cat. Vivaldi is my cat… and I haven’t seen him for ages.

But looking through all these blog entrieas I switch to WordPress and get it all set up, it made me want to hug Vivaldi… and then Gigi pops up. Not the same, but it’ll do. So I gave the little cat who’s now not so little a hug and then she went on her merry way… probably snooping for food in other people’s homes.

Vivaldi’s Back…
Sunday, April 6th, 2008
…and he's already being a pain in the ass.

Click on the picture of the cute Vivaldi to see it cuter (and bigger)…
He's been gone for around 6 months, wandering around Ocean St. until the daughter of a nice & now-retired vet / animal behaviourist picked him up and took him home. She's been taking care of him and we went and picked him up from her today.
As a result of his missing-ness, we have to keep him home for a few days to get him to remember where he lives so he'll come back. Being his own spirit, it's all too hard to say whether he will or not.
I hope he does.
I've missed him greatly. I took a nap with him on my bed today and he hung around sleeping next to me. It was nice. It was the way it should be.

Awww… click the image to go "awww" even more loudly…
I fed him a good deal of raw steak tonight. He even had some of my cooked steak. He's not exactly knocking anything I'm feeding him back so maybe he trusts me.
Still, he's being a pain. Meowing by the window, trying to get out while Gigi tries to get in.

I can't be the only one who gets reminded of Escher when I look at this photo…
*sigh*
What's a cat-brother to do?

Like a horses head only more colourful
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008
This morning I woke up with a cat sleeping next to me… or rather me sleeping next to the cat (which is how she would probably see it) and as my phone's alarm clock buzzed itself to life, Gigi – the cat in question – got a little startled.
I looked down at her and saw some feathers on my bed. I instantly thought "crikey, has she attacked a pillow" and then realised that… oh shit… there were feathers stuck to a wall… and they were colourful!
I jumped out of bed and saw the damage.
Feathers. Lorikeet feathers.
Ewww… I thought at one point it was the whole bird but as Dad helped me pick up the remains, he said it was just a wing.
Still ewww.
And then as I cleaned up the rest by myself and started taking the sheets off of my bed to be washed, I looked down and saw underneath my bed, the logo on a Viewsonic box staring up at me.
Really funny, Fate. Really fucking funny.
You know sometimes I wonder if I'm actually living inside of a black comedy. I even tell people that. No one ever tells me. It's probably a conspiracy. Like The Truman Show except all the world really is a bloody stage.
Or maybe it just could have been a warning sign from Gigi that the Mafia are out to get me and next time it'll be a horses head.
Oh well. I'll have the washing machine ready.

The year in review, 2007
Monday, December 31st, 2007
It's January 1st of the new year, 2008, and hopefully if all went according to the no-plan-plan I had going into this no-plan-plan I'm passed out with my head on the shoulder or chest of a girl who I've made out with in a drunken night of random kissing the evening prior.
Knowing my luck, I've probably just collapsed in a corner somewhere and am drooling in patterns that make Virgin Mary sightings seems like child's play.
Still, this is my first blog of the year… an automated message bringing you what I think is among the best of my blogs for the last year.
How many people do you know that wrote around 250 blog entries in the one year?
The answer is probably obvious.
None. You and your friends have lives.
Still, I'm planning a whole bunch more for this year ranging between crap for the Gimmick Guy, a year-long blog-ject (like a project but specifically for the blog), Chimp, and a bunch of other things that I won't burden with you right now.
So here is my year in review… some of it anyway. Some of it's happy. Some of it's sad. All of it is past-tense.

Wait– where’s Vivaldi?
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007
I haven't seen our cat Vivaldi for at least a week or so now. It's probably beginning to get near two weeks… I can't be sure.
Cats are odd in this way. I'm convinced that they're like teenagers and this is what I have to look forward to if I ever end up having kids (and then the world is forever lost! LOST I TELL YOU!)
Seriously, they're very similar animals.
Take for instance the way Vivaldi deals with us. He's been our (Dad's but Dad pays little or no attention to him) cat for a few years now. We've let him be an outdoor animal for some time and he'd run out the bathroom window after eating in the morning, fresh after a long night out on the neighbourhood. He'd do some stuff, sleep either at home or at our place… who knows, really, and then pop back in for dinner, meow for attention at which point we'd feed him and he'd escape through the window shortly afterwards to begin his life again.
With outdoor cats, life begins whenever dinner ends.
But in recent weeks, it's been working differently. He only comes in with me… as in, if he sees me walking down the road, he comes up to me, walks by my side, and then follows me in. When I feed him, he promptly rejects my food. Whether it be fish, beef, turkey, lamb, chicken… whatever… he looks at it and goes back to the dry food, the cereal he'd normally eat for breakfast.
Look at that in comparison with a teenager. I can remember being one… it was only a few years ago (really). We come home, ignore you and your food attempts, eat what we want, and then escape into all hours of the night at which point we'll come home maybe even through a window and then look for a midnight snack.
We're so similar. Really.
And so more recently, Vivaldi's been following me home but not walking in with me. He's been standing at the door and then leaving.
It's weird.
And then there are those times when I try to pick him up… and he just doesn't like it. He does as his purring indicates it, but he mrooowws as if it's going to kill him.
So for the past week or so I haven't seen him. And I've been looking for him. Jingling my keys as I walk down the street home, the normal way of attracting his attention… and nothing. I don't see him and I don't hear him.
I suspect one of the neighbours has him. He's a smart and sweet cat and this wouldn't be the first time neighbours were feeding him and keeping him in without our knowledge.
So I tried a different approach. Seeing one of the black cats and Gigi were talking (or rather hissing), I decided to try to get on their good terms and ask them.
Unfortunately, they weren't too obliging…
